The Asia / America New Music Institute (AANMI) is a non-profit organization founded in 2013, dedicated to promoting new music relationships between Asia and the Americas. With a focus on narrative, AANMI's programs strive to create meaningful experiences for concertgoers by using new music as an entry point into understanding the wide and beautiful array of human experiences in these parts of the world. AANMI has presented chamber concert programs, workshops, masterclasses, lectures, and public outreach programs in Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang, New York City, Hanoi, Bangkok, Okinawa, Seoul, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Salem (MA), and Central & Southern Utah. Concerts have featured artists such as Ryu Goto, Matthew Aucoin, Davóne Tines, Rachel Lee Priday, Yuga Cohler, Kah Chun Wong, Narong Prangcharoen, Ye Xiaogang, and Jun Hong Loh, in direct collaboration with over 150 other performing artists and composers. AANMI's programs have been supported by the Asian Cultural Council, the US Department of State, the Peabody Essex Museum, Asian Composers' League, Asia - Europe New Music Festival, Beijing Modern Music Festival, Utah Arts Festival, USC Pacific Asia Museum, Asian Contemporary Ensemble, Snow College, Thailand International Composition Festival, Orchestra of Southern Utah, among others.

AANMI's next scheduled programs will take place in Japan in June, 2018, with support from the US Embassy in Tokyo. AANMI's first studio recording will be released in spring, 2018.

AANMI는 Asia-America New Music Institute의 약자로서 비영리 단체의 작곡가와 연주자들로 이루어진 그룹이다. 동서 음악의 화합과 조화를 이루며 현대음악을 선도하고 발전시키기 위해 조직된 단체이다. 동서양 각 나라 작곡가들에게 작품을 위촉 하고 연주를 통해 소개하는데도 앞장서고 있다. 현재 AANMI 소속의 작곡가 및 연주자들은 New York Metropolitan Opera 최연소 지휘자를 비롯해 ASCAP과 BMI수상 작곡가, Emmy Awards수상 작곡가, 2008년 beijing 올림픽 개회음악 작곡가, 헐리 우드 영화 호빗(Hobbits) 편곡자들이다. 현재 뉴욕의 Juilliard, Yale대학, Harvard대 학, Columbia대학, 도쿄 예술대학, 북경 센트럴 컨서버토리등 여러 나라 다양한 출신대학의 음악가들이 참여하고 있으며 여러 현대 작품들은 미국, 한국, 일본, 중국, 태국, 베트남등 주요 도시에서 연주활동을 통해 “문화의 연결”, “문화의 조화”, “동서 양의 화합” 을 위해 노력하고 있다.

AANMI는 세계의 젊은 작곡가와 연주자들이 현대음악을 매개 체로 하나가 되며 화합을 이루고자 함에 목적을 두고 있다. AANMI는 그 첫 번째 사업으로 8개국에서 100여명이 넘는 연주 자와 작곡가들이 함께 공동작업을 한 바 있다. 두 번째로는 ACL-Korea(Asia Composers League)국제음악제 초청연주 및 일본 오키나와와 미국영사관 초청으로 연주투어를 하였고 AANMI 소속 15명 작곡가들의 새로운 곡을 가지고 미국과 동 양 여러 나라에서 작품발표를 하였다. 세 번째로는 미국 메 사츄세츠 주에 있는 Peabody Essex Museum(미국 최초의 박물관)위촉으로 작품발표와 연주회가 시작되었다. 첼리스트 요요마와 함께 실크로드(Silk Road)앙상불에서 같이 활동하는 일본 샤쿠하치(Shakuhachi)악기의 장인 코지로 우메자키 (Kojiro Umezaki)와의 공동작업을 통해 동서양 악기들의 조화 를 이루는 곡들을 위촉 받아 박물관에서 초연하였다. 2018 년에는 일본의 미국대사관 초청으로 도쿄를 중심으로일본내 10 여 도시를 순회하며 창작곡 연주회를 갖을 예정이다.
